Kristen Powell

Kristen Powell is a Fort Wayne native who graduated from Purdue Fort Wayne with a B.A. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication in 2018. While she was finishing her bachelor’s degree, she worked full-time as a hairstylist. However, Kristen went beyond being a hairstylist for the salon and instead decided to use some of the communication skills she was learning to establish branding for the salon as well as traveling with her salon owner to teach stylists nationwide. That desire to go further than just the bare minimum, also leads Kristen to be involved in her community. When she is not working, she spends her time volunteering with the Fort Wayne Rugby Football Club Auxiliary as well as volunteering for United Way of Allen County. Outside of working and volunteering, she enjoys spending her time with animals, nature, music, and art. But most of all, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and their two furry children.

Kristen has been volunteering with United Way of Allen County for one and half years and is currently serving on our Marketing Committee. She has been one of our most kind and creative volunteers. She was briefly part of our social media contractors, SociallySeasoned and she has also volunteered for our Day of Caring. Kristen genuinely believes in the work that United Way is doing for our community and is especially passionate about it. She elaborates, “From advocacy, to volunteering, to diversity, equity, and inclusion, United Way is truly working in and all-around Fort Wayne to make it better for ALL.”

Kristen cares deeply about Fort Wayne and Allen County. Her roots are here, and she intends to stay here to make the community even better. She knows there are many critical community issues that need addressed and she is excited to be part of the change that United Way of Allen County is making with these issues. She wants Allen County to continue to grow in many ways. She hopes to see a growth in diversity, economic growth, and most of all she wants to see Fort Wayne unite for and with each other. With people like Kristen Powell volunteering for United Way, we feel even more confident we will be able to tackle the critical community issues of today and of the future.
