2024 Kindergarten Countdown Backpack and School Supply Contributors
The Kindergarten Countdown program was developed to help families better navigate and prepare for the crucial transition into kindergarten while helping students be better prepared for school. The program offers four weeks of high-quality instruction using a very hands-on, exploratory approach to learning. The 2024 program just ended and each student received a backpack filled with school supplies.
Thank you to Aqua Indiana, Erie Insurance, Franklin Electric, Hallmark Home Mortgage, Hylant, L3 Harris Corp., Momper Insulation, PHP, and Regal Rexnord for supporting our backpack and school supply needs!
Taking Tocqueville to New Heights
On July 18, 2024, United Way of Allen County hosted a discussion on mental health at the 122nd Fighter Wing, among F-16s in their hangar. Guests were able to take a walking tour of the base as well as a shuttle tour to see this military city within our city. The 122nd is home to the only base in the country that has a railroad track running through it! Helpful during WWII, but less so in 2024.
Highlighting the current state of mental health in our community, particularly among our youth, speakers included Melissa Richards and Regan Fry, LMFT from Fort Wayne Community Schools, Kristen Varian, PsyD, HSSP of Parkview Health, and Command Chief Kyle Hoopingardner of the 122nd. The speakers allowed Q & A with the guests. The evening was informative and insightful for all who attended.
