General Motors has made good on its challenge to hourly workers at its Allen County pickup truck assembly plant.
For every dollar United Auto Workers Local 2209 members donated to United Way of Allen County last year, GM promised to match it.
The Detroit automaker paid up Monday with a check for $264,619.59 in a small ceremony at the local United Way headquarters.
“This really comes down to the backs of our men and women, who do a great job building great trucks,” local plant manager Mike Thomas said, referring to about 4,000 workers who build the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.
That donation was on top of the $50,000 community grant GM gives to the local United Way annually.
