Communications Manager

United Way of Allen County is seeking a new member to its professional team!


The Communications Manager will leverage expertise to support and expand marketing campaigns across United Way’s multi-channel mix to deepen engagement and partner relations, generate new leads, and maximize the local United Way brand. The Communications Manager will develop and implement the necessary digital strategies to attract and engage new and existing champions and volunteers. Responsible for writing compelling marketing copy for a variety of mediums such as web content, advertising copy, emails, and social media; and collaborate on cross-functional efforts to develop content plans throughout the organization.

Candidate must have a passion for the mission and values of United Way, with a strong interest in marketing social impact products focused on health, education and financial stability.

Essential Duties:  

Social Media – 25%

Implement and track all multi-channel digital marketing and email campaigns, including the integration of direct mail and other digital content delivery.
Integrate social media strategies with forward-thinking content and communication plans across various outlets to amplify our message, engage stakeholders, and build new audiences.

Communication Strategies – 25%

Identify and use KPI results to ensure that marketing programs are maximized to coordinate across various fundraising and communication platforms. Determine actionable solutions for continuous improvement.
Help design, influence, and implement key digital journeys, and other tools, to drive new donor acquisition, deepen existing partner and donor relationships, and expand understanding of our local United Way’s mission and work.
Integrate all digital activities and content to create a holistic, consistent experience.

Marketing – 25%

Write compelling copy for web, advertising, social, and email. Must be able to quickly turn around content and maintain a high level of professionalism and consistency.
Design content for internal teams, and senior leadership, to socialize the digital activities and results.

Public Relations – 25%

Maintain a story bank by capturing, curating, and organizing content from staff, the United Way Network and other sources on an ongoing basis, while leveraging the story bank—and content therein—as a tool for supporting content needs and strengthening the organizational narrative.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to build public relations strategies and create new pathways for the collection and promotion of content.
Performs other related duties as assigned including communications support (e.g., technical assistance with presentations, executive communications, speeches, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree ( Communications, marketing, journalism, public relations discipline or business administration strongly preferred).

Experience: At least three to five years of progressive experience in a similar role; media relations experience strongly preferred.

Will consider candidate with equivalent education and experience.

Skills:

  • Superb writing and editing skills across traditional and electronic media channels, familiarity with AP style, communications experience writing content for the Web, including blogs and social media.
  • Advanced knowledge of grammatical composition and strong proofreading skills
  • Expert-level proficiency in MS Office
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and assignments with occasional conflicting timelines - ensures information is complete and accurate, follows up with others
  • to ensure agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.
  • A proven understanding of what content works best in the various social and digital channels. Anticipating and adopting innovations in business and building/applying digital and technology applications.
  • Ability to work autonomously with a minimal amount of supervision, and to excel in an entrepreneurial, self-starting and fast paced environment. 

Physical Requirements: 
Work is primarily carried out in a controlled, agreeable environment as generally represented by normal office conditions. Standard office activity associated with attending meetings within the organization and meeting external constituents. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear and read; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs, stoop, kneel or crouch; type; operate a computer, calculator, copy machine and fax machine. Extended periods of time sitting at desk and working on PC. Occasionally required to drive/operate a car, lift, carry and load supplies and materials of approximately 30 pounds.  Minimal, local meetings as required. Occasional annual UW conference attendance as determined by supervisor.  Valid Indiana driver’s license; required minimum insurance coverage and daily access to reliable transportation.  Occasionally required to work hours outside the standard 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM time frame.
