Learn United Partners

United Way enters partnerships where its participation can make the biggest impact on Allen County. For example, United Way of Allen County’s education initiative, Learn United, works to engage the community in supporting children’s success in school. Here is a list of Learn United partners:

Allen County Public Library
The Allen County Public Library needs volunteers to support Paws to Read, a program that improves the literacy skills of children by having them read to an animal. Call 260-421-1233 for more information.

Associated Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County
Associated Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County needs volunteers for their Rising Stars program to work with children in the public schools as mentors, tutors and reading assistants. Rising Stars specializes in connecting faith-based communities and organizations to public schools. Call 260-422-3528 x104 for more information.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana offers many opportunities for volunteers to support a child, including becoming a Big Sister or Big Brother. Also, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and United Way of Allen County have many volunteer opportunities with options ranging from one hour a month (Real Men Read) to one hour a week (School Buddies). Both programs are school-based and focus on improving elementary students’ literacy skills. Call Big Brothers Big Sisters at 260-456-1600 for more information.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne
Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne needs volunteers to mentor and tutor youth ages 6-18 years old at any of the three locations across the city. Call 260-744-0998 x18 for more information.

The Fort Wayne Urban League
The Fort Wayne Urban League needs volunteers to support the Urban League After School Academy, which provides homework help and academic enrichment activities for K-12 students. Call 260-745-3100 for more information.

The Neighborhood Action Center
The Neighborhood Action Center needs volunteers to support students in southeast Fort Wayne, many of whom are Burmese, on the journey to improving their academic and life success skills. Call 260-447-6016 for more information.

Science Central
Science Central needs volunteers to support the educational programs and inspire fun, hands-on science and creative literacy learning for students from across the region. Call 260-424-2400 x421 for more information.

Study Connection

Study Connection needs volunteers, and particularly businesses, to expand the number of sites where Fort Wayne Community Schools students are paired with well-prepared tutors to help them achieve academic success. Call 260-467-8810 for more information.

Wellspring Interfaith Social Services
Wellspring Interfaith Social Services needs volunteers to support learning in both the Youth After School and Summer Day Camp programs. Volunteers work on a one-to-one basis or in a small group with youth, helping with homework and also carrying out Wellspring’s learning and youth development goals as directed by the staff of the agency. Renaissance Pointe YMCA

Renaissance Pointe YMCA needs volunteers to support children’s success in school through a range of after-school opportunities. Call 260-755-4881 for more information.
