Power of the Purse Set for September 29

United Way’s Women United committee is unveiling a unique fundraising event called Power of the Purse, presented by cinda b, one of the fastest-growing handbag, travel bag and tote companies in the country. Additional sponsors include LH Industries and Kachmann Mind Body Institute. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 29, 5:30 p.m. at the Fort Wayne Country Club.

“Combining women’s love for purses and helping children is just a natural fit,” says Kathy Eikenberry, Women United chairperson. “This is going to be an energetic and fun evening, yet it will also be critical to the long-term success of local children.”

Dollars raised during Power of the Purse, presented by cinda b, will support early childhood education efforts. Specifically, they will help fund the Fort Wayne Urban League’s Read ‘n Rise program, SCAN’s Healthy Families program and scholarships for low-income preschoolers to attend a fully accredited child care center. The child care centers are operated by Early Childhood Alliance, Lutheran Social Services, Gingerbread House, Turnstone, East Allen Family Resource Center and Martin Luther King Montessori School. United Way’s Early Childhood Allocation Team will help make the final allocations for funding. Allocation teams are made up of trained volunteers who study programs and help determine the best use of donor dollars.

Power of the Purse, presented by cinda b, will include both a live and silent auction of new, gently used and celebrity-owned designer purses. Purses have been promised from Barbara Walters, Robin Roberts, Heather Headley, Julia Barr and Shelley Long and will be included in the collection, as will be purses from local well-known women and artists.

Admission for the event is $50 per person. Everyone attending will receive a complimentary cinda b clutch. Reservations can be made by calling United Way’s Robin Holley at 260-469-4002 or by emailing her at robinh@uwacin.org. Anyone wishing to donate a designer purse to the event should also call or email Holley.
