An Interview with John Rogers
Leadership Profile

About how long have you been a United Way donor?

I have been a donor to United Way for 34 years.

Aside from being a donor, how have you been involved with United Way?

I'm in my 4th term as a board member. In addition, I have served as Day of Caring Chair, Campaign Chair and Board Chair and just generally worked on the campaign a lot in past years.

What first convinced you to give to United Way?

When I first started working out of school, I had the opportunity to give through payroll deduction.

Why have you continued to give and even increased your gift over the years?

We believe that United Way has a unique perspective on local needs. We think that the campaign money is put to the best use because of the volunteers who analyze those needs and decide where the money is most required.

If you could tell people one thing they might not know about United Way, what would it be?

If I could tell someone one thing that they might not know about United Way, I would say that a whole lot of caring people in our community make a lot of good things happen for those in need in Fort Wayne. United Way really is a team effort.

Please tell us a little about yourselves, your careers, family and interests.

Suzanne and I have been married for 30 years and have raised three children, twins (23) and our oldest (25). I've been employed by Rogers Markets for 34 years and Suzanne is a wildlife and local monument photographer. We are both Fort Wayne natives and feel the best way to solve local problems is for local people to be involved and that United Way and its partner agencies are good outlets for that involvement.
